Frequently Asked Questions
ABOUT MOISSANITE
What is moissanite?
Moissanite is a lab-created gemstone, composed of silicon carbide. It was originally discovered in a meteorite in 1893. It has a brilliance superior to that of diamond, a hardness of 9.25 on the Mohs scale, and is completely ethical and sustainable. You can learn more on our page What is Moissanite?
Can you tell the difference between moissanite and a diamond?
To the naked eye, no. Even jewelers need special instruments to distinguish them. The real difference is in the price — and in making a better choice.
Does moissanite lose its sparkle over time?
No. Moissanite is an extremely durable stone that permanently maintains its brilliance. With proper basic care, your jewelry will shine just like the first day.
What do Color D and Clarity VVS1 mean?
Color D is the highest classification on the color scale — it means the stone is completely colorless, just like the purest diamond. VVS1 means Very Very Slightly Included — practically no visible inclusions even with a magnifying glass. All Zivaria moissanites have this classification.
What is the GRA certificate?
The GRA (Gemological Research Association) is the international reference body for moissanite certification. The GRA certificate confirms the authenticity, color, and clarity of each stone. All Zivaria pieces include this certificate.
